It's totally true: latest study has shown that drinking a hot beverage on a hot day actually can cool you down. The idea of drinking hot drinks in warm weather goes back hundreds of years and it is true. The reason your body will still feel cool after drinking a cup of hot tea, whether during the summer or winter, is because of the caffeine in the tea.
Moreover, turns out there are some nerves in our mouth and tongue that have some special receptors. When you eat or drink something hot, receptors get that Heat-Signal, and let the brain know what's going on. When the brain gets the message "Oh, my! It's hot in here," it turns on the mechanism "Cool Ourselves Off". Basically, it means "sweating".
"The hot drink somehow has an effect on your systemic cooling mechanisms, which exceeds its actual effect in terms of heating your body," says McNaughton (neuroscientist at the University of Cambridge).
So, depending on your environmental conditions, Hot Cup of Tea isn’t such a crazy idea after all:)
